Nestled in the small town of Palakkal, a mere 7 kms away from Thrissur, the culture capital of Kerala, it functions efficiently in a multistoried building with a total bed strength of 25 numbers.
The unfortunate departure of its beloved founder and Chief Physician Dr. Mohan Kumar, has placed the hospital in the equally able hands of his wife, Dr. P. V. Prasanna MD (Ay.), an acclaimed Physician and noted academician. She retired as the Principal from Vaidyaratnam Ayurveda College, Ollur, and has forty exemplary years of Teaching and Clinical experience to her credit. Currently she gives her undivided attention to the facility along with her daughter Dr. Smitha Mohan P.V., son Dr. Shyam Mohan and daughter in law Dr. Anjana Unnikrishnan, all expert Physicians in their own right.
AYURVEDA, A PROLOGUE.
Ayurveda, the Science of Ayu: (Life), advocates the theory that Man is the embodiment of the Cosmos, the Loka-Purusha Samanya theory. Herein lays the basic holistic approach of the Science, as balanced existence of the Purusha (individual self) is nearly impossible without harmony in the Loka (Universe) and vice-versa.
The Sareera (body) is composed of the Doshas, Dhatus and Malas. The Tridoshas namely Vata, Pitta and Kapha, are functional humors in the body; the Sapta- dhatus are more gross manifestations and correspond very tangentially to the different tissues in the body; the Malas, are different excretory materials; these together account for the maintenance of health and manifestation of disease as well, in this sophisticated stream of medicine. Permutations and combinations of these subtle elements give rise to different Body constitutions, namely Prakritis, necessitating treatment protocols that are tailor made for each individual. In depth knowledge and understanding of the Panchabhoutika constitution (assembly of earth, water, fire, air and ether principles), the manodoshas namely Rajas and Tamas; the three important factors with respect to roga (disease) and rogi (patient), Hetu (Cause), Linga (Signs and symptoms) and Oushada njana ( knowledge about medicines and their preparations), are indispensable for administering accurate and scientific Ayurvedic treatment.
