Dr.V.N.Krishna Iyer was an eminent physician and diagnostician, a very good obstetrician and even a surgeon at times. On his return from England after completing higher studies there, he wanted to establish in Trichur the necessary infrastructure essential for diagnosis and treatment in modern medicine. Thus was born his brain child, the Polyclinic. That was the time when one had to go to Ernakulam or Coimbatore for a routine laboratory test or a simple x-ray.
